The Oswin Project was delighted to be given the opportunity to work with R-Affordable Homes Ltd in Scotland. The company was established to create an ethical, socially driven business, rolling out a new housing initiative based in Scotland. Their mission was to build beautiful top quality homes whilst tackling inequality and the lack of employment opportunities. This, they set out to achieve, by employing a core of skilled committed builders who would work alongside, train and encourage ex service personnel, people with past convictions, those who were long term unemployed and those with disabilities. The homes were designed to be strong, spacious, energy efficient and with a target core price starting at £120,00. A number of Oswinners have been working in Scotland with the highly skilled and dedicated team there and have gained enormous experience and new skills while working on the project.
Three versatile, affordable houses were designed by Roderick James Architects, each deceptively simple yet incorporating features rarely found in mass produced affordable social housing. It is very much hoped Oswinners will be working on a similar scheme in Northumberland in the future.
