A Fresh Start Served Daily
Step into the historic surroundings of Newcastle Cathedral and discover Café 16, where exceptional food meets meaningful social impact. Our menu features freshly prepared breakfasts, an excellent lunch menu , baked goods, complemented by specialty coffees, fine teas and cold drinks, including our new range of Milkshakes.
Our People, Our Purpose
Café 16 is staffed by prison leavers building new careers in hospitality, professionally trained and mentored by The Oswin Project team. Our delicious breads and pastries come directly from our bakery in HMP Northumberland, where serving prisoners develop valuable skills that create pathways to employment upon release.
Beyond Daily Service
From intimate gatherings to cathedral events, our team provides professional catering services ranging from sophisticated canapés for receptions to traditional afternoon teas. We bring the same level of care and quality to special events which defines our daily service.

LNER Film on Cafe 16 at Newcastle Cathedral
In the spring of 2021, our team were painting and cleaning the kitchen of our Cafe 16 in Newcastle Cathedral in preparation for opening. We couldn’t have done it without the very generous support of LNER’s customer and community investment fund. They produced this film, interviewing Fiona, Caroline and Mickey and shared how through employment and training, Cafe 16 inside Newcastle Cathedral is changing lives.
