Cafe 16 at Keir

Café 16 at Keir is The Oswin Project’s newest social enterprise, bringing quality refreshments and meaningful employment opportunities to the HMP Northumberland construction site.

About the Venture

Operating from a portacabin on site at Keir, Café 16 serves construction workers and site staff throughout the day. But this isn’t just another site café, it’s a vital stepping stone in our participants’ journey toward sustainable employment and successful community reintegration.

Impact Beyond Coffee

Every transaction at Café 16 contributes to breaking the cycle of reoffending. Research consistently shows that stable employment is one of the strongest protective factors against reoffending. By providing real jobs with real responsibilities, we’re helping our participants build the foundations for lasting change.

Café 16 joins our established network of social enterprises, each designed to create opportunities where they’re needed most. From our award-winning Baking Out bakery to our Changing the Cycle bike shop, we’re proving that everyone deserves the chance to contribute positively to society.

Supporting Our Work

When construction workers choose Café 16 for their morning coffee, they’re not just getting a quality service – they’re actively supporting rehabilitation and community safety. It’s proof that social change can happen in the most everyday moments.
